Robbie Wayne Carpenter, of Brazoria, passed away at his residence, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at age 74. Visitation will be Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverends Bill Sutton of the Oletha Baptist Church, Willie Mills of the Assembly of God of Lufkin, and Ronnie Dabney of the Baptist Church of Italy officiating. Burial will follow at Cobb Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Sommer Buckalew, Dustin Jones, Phillip Carpenter, Russell Buckalew, Thomas Carpenter, Michelle Buckalew, Robbie Carpenter, Aubrey Carpenter, and Abbey Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Slaughter, Mike Sutton, Johnny Ray Carpenter, Eddie Durham, Reiner Clewis, Robert Sutton, Pat O'Connell, Ronald Anderson, and Mike Moffett. Robbie was born May 27, 1936 to Clyde Rasco Carpenter and Velma Pierce (Robinson) Carpenter in Thornton. He grew up in Thornton, then attended High School in Lake Jackson. Robbie was united in marriage with Barbara Juanita Sutton on January 7, 1956 at Groesbeck, and they lived in West Columbia where he had a career as a carpenter. He built homes and repaired houses, until he retired in 1998. He had built each of he and Barbara's houses, and he had a vision of seeing each of his children have their own house, and this was accomplished with him helping each one in the building and remodeling. Robbie was good at working with his hands. He was special also in his desire to help others. He loved all his grandchildren and great grandchilden, but the oldest great grandson, Boo Boo considered Robbie to be his best friend. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Robbie loved living on Lake Limestone, where he loved to fish, loved being out in the boat with the grandchildren, and loved the neighbors there. They lived there about twenty years. During the past three years, the family moved to Brazoria to be near their daughter, due to health problems. Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Velma Carpenter; a son, Danny Lee Carpenter, who passed away December 27, 1985; and two brothers, Marcus Carpenter and Roland Carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Carpenter of Brazoria; son and daughter-in-law, Sonny Wayne and Bonnie Hogan Carpenter of Groesbeck; son,Kenneth Clyde Carpenter of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Robin Denise and Bob Buckalew of Brazoria; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and sister, Glenda Carpenter Mills of Lufkin.
