Mary Ozel "Dolly" Reasoner

December 13, 1913 — February 6, 2011

Mary Ozel “Dolly” Reasoner, of Waco, and formerly of Mexia, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, at the St. Catherine Center in Waco, at age 97. Visitation will be Monday, February 7, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Fort Parker Memorial Park, with Pastor Sonny Bever officiating. Mary was born December 13, 1913 to William Abraham Duke and Minnie Ola (Patterson) Duke in Limestone County. She grew up and went to school in Slaton, Texas. Mary was united in marriage with Nelson Reasoner, and they lived many years in Levelland, Texas, where they were store owners. After Mr. Reasoner passed away in 1967, she owned and operated the Springfield Bait House for the next thirty-three years, and was known to all as “Miss Dolly.” Miss Dolly and her store were an important part of the Springfield community, where many fishermen were regular customers, many visitors to the Fort Parker area stopped for refreshments, and many who lived in the area were daily customers. Miss Dolly would open up at all hours of the day or night, if anyone needed gas, bait, or other necessities. She lived a busy life there, which included the bird and dogs and cats which she loved. After she sold the store and retired, Miss Dolly moved to Robinson to live near her family, and where she especially was enjoyed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dolly was a hard worker, and was loved by many customers, friends, and her family throughout her life. Mrs. Reasoner was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Nelson Reasoner; her three brothers, Thomas Earl Duke, Bill Duke, and Elgin Duke; sister, Marie Duke Holmes; and beloved sister-in-law, Maxine Duke. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Linda Reasoner of Waco; granddaughter, Rachel Hobbs and husband Taylor Hobbs of Waco; granddaughter, Rebekah Bass and husband Corey Bass of Waco; and grandchildren, Alexandria Hobbs, Siena Hobbs, Gavin Bass, Sidney Bass, and Logan Bass of Waco; and nieces and nephews.
