Peggy Groce of Thornton passed away Sunday night March 20, 2011 at her home. A Memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday March 29, 2011 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel honoring Peggy’s life, with Tracy Sims officiating. Peggy was born in rural Limestone County March 22, 1935 to Alvis and Opal (Henderson) Richardson. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 52 loving years, JC “Buddy” Groce in August of 2006. Peggy was a member of the Eastern Star for 10 years and loved spending time with family and friends playing dominoes. She was a recent member of Limestone Medical Center’s Volunteers and a former member of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. Peggy will be remembered by her family and members of the Old Union community as an avid and excellent cook, and most specifically for her baking specialties. She always enjoyed baking for neighbors and friends and prepared baked goods for the memorials held in at the Old Union church and cemetery every June. Peggy had a wide assortment of jobs that included perfecting her culinary skills as a homemaker, assisted her husband with bookkeeping in the oil field industry and several jobs in the Pasadena community. Upon their retirement in 1997, they moved to the Oletha community from Pasadena and built their home. She is survived by her sister, Jane Dukes and husband Howard of Pipe Creek, TX; sons, Clay Groce and wife Geri of Pearland, James Groce and wife Donna of Houston, Dan Groce and wife Lori of Pearland; grandchildren, Ann Marie Groce of Humble, Amber Groce of Austin, Candice Groce of Austin, Brittany Bell of Houston, Bryan Groce of Houston, Nathan Groce of Pearland, Erica Groce of Pearland, Adam Castillo and Alex Castillo both of Pearland; great-grandchildren, Avery Castillo, Natalie Castillo and Parker Bell.
