She grew up at Thornton, and attended school at Beulah and Thornton High School. Mary lost her mother when she was 2 years old, so she grew up working hard, taking care of the family at home and helping with the farming, and learned the work ethic which she had all of her life. Mary was united in marriage with Welton Henderson on September 9, 1939 in Groesbeck. They lived in Old Union where they farmed and raised livestock. In 1957 they moved to the Groesbeck area where they lived for the rest of their lives. Mary worked in several positions in the Groesbeck area and at the Mexia State School. They also owned and operated Henderson’s Grocery and Market for a number of years. She was a hard worker but always enjoyed life. Her children remember and honor her as strong and determined, but also a very kind and generous woman. Mary was a loving grandmother, and said the happiest times of her life were when she was helping take care of her grandchildren. She had a good life, and made the best of the bad times as well as the good. Mary and Welton were founding members of the Groesbeck Christian Fellowship Church, holding the church meetings in their home until the church moved into a building. Later in life, she also attended the Word of Life Church. Mrs. Henderson was preceded in death by her husband Welton in 1994; brothers, Floyd Davis and Roger Davis; and sisters, Aleen, Joyce, JoNelle, and Nina Ruth. She is survived by daughter, Barbara Walker and husband Dennis of Groesbeck; son, Clinton Henderson and wife Mary of College Station; daughter, Nancy Reagan and husband Richard of Groesbeck; twin sons, Roger Henderson of Groesbeck and Robert Henderson and his wife Mary of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and sister, Doris Potter of Kaufman, and brother, Donald Davis of Garland.
