Gary Lee Greenaway

Gary Lee Greenaway, of Schaumburg, IL, and recent resident of Groesbeck the past nine months, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Limestone Medical Center, at age 72. A Memorial Service will be scheduled later by his family in Groesbeck, and also one will be held for family and friends in Illinois. Gary was born June 21, 1940 in Johnstown, PA, and grew up and finished school in nearby Portage, PA. He attended the University of Denver two years, and while there was married and had two daughters. A son was born later when he moved to the Chicago area. He lived in Schaumburg, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, the rest of his life and worked at O’Hara Airport. He worked in various parts of the airline industry from 1963 until his retirement from United Airlines on December 31, 2002. His greatest enjoyment was watching college football, especially Penn State, and he was the holder of season tickets with which he and his son would fly to see games as often as they could. In his free time, he also enjoyed shopping, traveling, and walking. He walked daily, and even up until a few weeks ago he was walking with his daughter while in Groesbeck. During the past nine months, due to health problems, he had moved to Groesbeck to be near his daughter. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walt Greenaway; and a daughter, Susan Greenaway. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Feeney of Groesbeck; son, Tom Greenaway of Schaumburg, IL; nine grandchildren: Melissa Cheyenne and husband Moises Hernandez of Arlington, TX; Shane Feeney of Thornton; Brittany and husband Joe Klem of Schaumburg, IL; Drake Feeney of Cuero, TX; Ashley Greenaway of Schaumburg, IL; Bret Feeney of Groesbeck, TX; Kylie Feeney of Kosse, TX; Alaina Feeney of Groesbeck; and Chad Feeney of Groesbeck, TX; one great-grandchild, Everett Hernandez of Arlington, TX.
