Robbie Paul Carr

March 1, 1920 — October 21, 2013

Paul Carr, of Groesbeck, passed away at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco on Monday, October 21, 2013. He was 93. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ in Groesbeck at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, October 25, 2013, with Brother Richard Williams officiating. He will be buried following a graveside prayer at Old Union Cemetery. Paul was born March 1, 1920. He married the love of his life, Maxine Vernell Shelton, on April 30, 1940. They shared 72 years together, residing most of their lives in the Limestone County area. They had two children, five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren who brought him much joy. A Navy veteran of WWII, Paul survived the Japanese kamikaze attack of the Bunker Hill in Okinawa on May 11, 1945. Upon completion of military duty in WWII, Paul spent many years in the tire business as an owner/manager for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Waco, Mexia, Marlin, and Henrietta, concluding his career in Groesbeck, where he worked alongside his son, Charles. Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He found true joy spending time with his wife and family on their homestead in Old Union, where they raised cattle. He loved going "down home" to check the rain gauge and to look for additions to the herd. Thankfully, due to the kindness and assistance of his daughter and friends, Paul was able to maintain this passion until he died. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine (in 2012); all his siblings; his son, Charles Henry Carr; grandson, David Szanto; and son-in-law, Lloyd Szanto. He is survived by his daughter, Paula Szanto of Lake Limestone; daughter-in-law, Julia Beard Carr of Houston; four grandchildren and their spouses: Charlyn and Murray Stacy of Flower Mound, Traci and John Kopp of Cedar Park, Bradley and Rebecca Carr of Canada, and Chad and Amanda Carr of Waco. He also leaves behind nine great grandchildren: Davis Szanto of Dallas, Carson and Caroline Stacy of Flower Mound, Taylor and Jenna Kopp of Cedar Park, Cade and Cannon Carr of Waco, and Alyssandra and Jayden Fluet of Canada; as well as a sister-in-law, Bonnie Alexander of Riesel and many nieces and nephews.
