David Warren Madden

March 23, 1942 — February 14, 2014

David Warren Madden, of Bastrop, passed away at home on Friday, February 14, 2014, at age 71. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 22, 2014, prior to the funeral services which will begin at 11:00 A.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Faulkenberry Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Taylor Fording, Devin Fording, Chad Birdsong, Brent Birdsong, Robert Brehm, Jay Gregson, Brian Clark, and Judah Starr. David was born on March 23, 1942 to George and Louise Madden in Dallas, and grew up in Groesbeck. He graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1960, and was also a college graduate. David lived most of his adult life in San Antonio, with a few years lived in Harlingen, and then the last fifteen years, he had lived in Bastrop. David was recently retired as a self-employed entrepenaur. During his career, he had been involved in a variety of enterprises, including Woolco store management, vending machines, arcade games, and he established the first independent pay-phone company (TAMCO) outside of Southwest Bell. He was involved also in mobile home sales, and was proud of his association with a pain management clinic where he was able to have helped many people with pain relief. David loved to sing and dance, play golf, fish, tell jokes, and live life to the fullest. David was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Carter Madden and his wife, Ama Sue Madden. He is survived by his four daughters and their families: Melanie and Michael Fording of Mercedes, Melissa Madden of San Antonio, Lenore and Jay Gregson of San Antonio, and Mindy and Lee Starr of San Antonio; three stepsons, Christopher Murphy, Michael Murphy, and Ryan Murphy; grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Tara, Taylor, Devin and Destiny Fording; Jordan and Becca Gregson; Emily, Mahli, Judah, and Claire Starr; Parker and Presley Murphy; and his sister and brother-in-law, Sara Thompson and Robert Brehm of San Antonio and nephew, Scott Thompson, and many cousins. The family wishes to express their special appreciation to Taylor, Devin and Mike Fording.
