Leldon "L.D." Dwain Wright

March 12, 1938 — May 19, 2014

Leldon Dwain “L.D.” Wright, of Kosse, passed away at home on Monday, May 19, 2014, at age 76. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 20, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Kosse Church of Christ, with his grandsons, Brother Keith Sellers of the Church of Christ at Beeville and Brother Lee Wright of the Church of Christ at Marlin officiating. Burial will follow in Eutaw Cemetery. The following of his friends and co-workers from Nucor Steer are honored to serve as his pallbearers: Kerry Pickens, Bubba McDonald, Gary Cox, Gene Harris, Vic Caldwell, James Powell, Jim Chandler, and Darrell Hicks. L.D. was born March 12, 1938 to Marcus Edgar Wright and Ellene (Allen) Wright in Kosse, where he grew up and graduated from school. L. D. was united in marriage with Willie Mae O’Neal on June 22, 1957 and they moved to Houston, where he worked many years as an electrician at General Electric. He moved his family back to Kosse in 1973. He went to work at Nucor Steel at Jewett in 1980 where he worked for the next twenty-one years. He was an electrician and retired as maintenance supervisor in 2000. L.D. was a man who had a personal work ethic which he instilled in his children down to the grandchildren and also displayed in his career, earning him the respect of his crew and co-workers as well as his family. L.D. loved the outdoors, and especially star-gazing in the night sky. He would text his family to go out to look when the sky held some spectacular views he did not want them to miss. Another of his enjoyments in life was driving down the back-roads, and looking for vintage cars, because a major part of his life was spent in restoring old cars. And he did find a “few” of them on his drives. He used the internet to search for the parts he needed to restore both the motors and bodywork. His 56 Ford Fairlane was entered in the Kosse Homecoming parade a few years. When his health prevented him still driving in his last days, he had his son and grandson give him a personal “car show”, and was delighted to see them drive past and “light-them-up.” L.D. used his creative talents in everyday life, continually impressing his family with his “rigging” up items to make them more useful, even up until the last few weeks. His most valued trophies were his “lovely little family,” as he called them; and he loved and cherished them all dearly. L.D. was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ben M. Wright. He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Wright of Kosse; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Lynn and Tommy Sellers of Kosse; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky Dwain and Jodi Wright of Kosse; eight grandchildren: Keith Sellers and wife Samantha of Beeville, Bryan Sellers of Kosse, Kevin Sellers of Kosse, Lee Wright and wife Tara of Marlin, Heather Flippen and husband William of Kosse, Lora West and husband Brian of DeSoto, Trey Lloyd and wife Summer of Kosse, and Jennifer Sellers of Corpus Christi; and eleven great grandchildren. He also leaves behind brothers, sisters, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Hilton and Joan Wright of Mexia, Ruby Chris Hill of Denton, Billy Marcus and Judy Wright of Mexia, Earnest and Bertha Wright of West, Billie and Jack Cox of Kosse, Robert and Glenda O’Neal of Kosse, and Dena and James Yezak of Bremond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
