Willie Lee Ray

December 9, 1921 — May 29, 2014

Willie Lee Ray, of Groesbeck, passed away at age 92 on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Groesbeck LTC, where she had resided the past two months. Although she will be remembered by her family and friends, there will not be a Memorial service. Willie Lee was born December 9, 1921 at Old Union to William Thomas Lummus and Ethel Eddie (Foster) Lummus. After growing up in Old Union, she moved to Dallas as a young lady and then back to Groesbeck, where she met Ralph Ray. They were united in marriage, and made their home in Groesbeck. During the time he drove cattle trucks hauling bulls to California, she made many trips with him on the truck. She worked locally in cafes and then went to work at the Mexia State School, where she retired after twenty-five years. Willie Lee enjoyed riding around and especially in the Old Union area where she grew up. Although she had no children of her own, she was popular with her nieces and nephews who visited her when they could. A favorite memory about Willie Lee was how much she loved peanuts. She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her parents and all of her brothers and sisters, as well as her husband, Ralph Ray many years ago. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Clauda Lummus of Houston and numerous nieces and nephews.
