Larry Gene Medders of Groesbeck passed away Sunday June 15, 2014 at Windsor Nursing Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday June 17, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 18, 2014 at 2 PM in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Daryl Hatley officiating. Burial will follow at Faulkenberry Cemetery. Larry was born May 2, 1944 in Groesbeck to Alvis & Dorothy Wright Medders. He grew up in Groesbeck and graduated from Groesbeck High School as salutatorian of his class in 1962. After graduation he attended Lamar Tech in Beaumont for one year. He then enlisted in the US Air Force and spent three of his four years in Taiwan as a Chinese interpreter. Larry was very familiar with the Chinese language and was not only able to speak Chinese, but also able to write it. After returning back to the states, Larry worked all over the country from Hawaii to California doing multiple jobs as cab driver, bar tender, hotel clerk and excelled well in all endeavors he set his mind to. He also had a special gift of making origami figures. He made several scorpions, dragons and other figures while in the nursing home; some of which were made of paper and wire. Larry is preceded in death by his father, Alvis Medders; stepfather, Edgar White; uncle Donald Wright and grandparents, Earl & Ruth Wright. Larry is survived by his mother, Dorothy Medders of Groesbeck; brother Eddie Medders of Groesbeck; sister, Cathy Mangum and husband Jim of Plano; nephew, Charles Mangum and wife Melissa of Ft. Bragg NC; step brother and sister, Kenneth White and wife Kathy and their children of Houston and Gloria Bryant and husband Leonard and children of Houston.
