John Junior Lehrmann

January 11, 1932 — June 23, 2014

John Junior Lehrmann, of Groesbeck, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Temple, with his family at his side. He was 82. Visitation will be Thursday, June 26, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Groesbeck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. Paul Cemetery near Marlin. John was born January 11, 1932 to Adolf Henry Lehrmann and Erna Roise (Kunkel) Lehrmann on a farm near Mart. He grew up on the farm attending school in Ben Hur, Mart, and surrounding towns. John farmed and ranched all his life around or near Groesbeck. He also worked at livestock auction barns in Groesbeck, Waco, and nearby towns for over 50 years. And in addition, he used his many skills in buying and rebuilding old houses all over, from Marlin, Mart, Groesbeck, and Ben Hur, and reselling these. When not working, John was an avid reader of Western books, reading one or more per week. His large collection of books is being donated to the Limestone Medical Center. He was not a TV watcher, except for Westerns. Earlier in his life, he enjoyed fishing with his best friend, Waylan Alewine. Part of the family memories will be how much he enjoyed Bush’s chicken livers and fruit-flavored tootsie rolls. John was a forgiving man, not holding a grudge against anyone for wrongs done. He lived independently at home until the past five weeks, when his health began to rapidly decline. He spent five weeks in Limestone Medical Center and his last three days at his daughter’s home. He loved his family, and enjoyed being able to spend time with grandsons, Jason and Jonathan. He also dearly loved his two great granddaughters, Tristyn and McKenzi, who lived close enough for him to spend time with and “pick on.” In fact, Tristyn was the last loved one he smiled at and spoke to. Mr. Lehrmann was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Erna Lehrmann; a sister, Irene Miller; two brothers, Clarence Lehrmann and Ted Lehrmann; and two sons-in-law, Smiley Brooks and Russell McLaughlin. He is survived by his five children: daughter, Cynthia Brooks of Bryan, daughter, Janice McLaughlin of Belton, son, Johnny Lehrmann of Academy, daughter and son-in-law, Jo Lynn (Jody) and Doug Suhr of Temple, and daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Benny Gore of Mexia. He has twelve grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers, Roy Lehrmann of San Antonio, Earl Lehrmann and his wife, Gloria of Thornton, sister-in-law, Mary Frances Lehrmann; and many nieces and nephews. His daughter, Jody and family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Boyd and all of the Limestone Medical Center staff, from nurses to dietary staff for the especially thoughtful care provided during their father's illness and time in the hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Limestone Medical Center Nursing Department, 701 McClintic Dr., Groesbeck, TX 76642
