Barbara Ann Burleson

November 26, 1946 — November 3, 2014

Barbara Ann Burleson, of Groesbeck, passed away suddenly on Monday, November 3, 2014, at Limestone Medical Center, at age 67. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 8, 2014, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Richard Williams of the Church of Christ of Groesbeck officiating. Barbara was born November 26, 1946 to Lester "Leck" Idelle Tilley and Virginia Macelle (Fox) Tilley in Thornton. She grew up in Thornton and attended school in Thornton and Groesbeck, graduating from Groesbeck in the Class of 1965. At Groesbeck High School, she was very active in sports and all school activities, and was a cheerleader, as well as being a very pretty girl. Barbara began dating Danny J. Burleson her sophomore year. During the summer after her graduation, while Danny was in school in Dallas, she planned their wedding and made all preparations in one week, and they were united in marriage on August 29, 1965 at the church of Christ in Groesbeck. During Danny’s career in sales with Eastman Kodak, the family moved many times, moving from Arlington, to Indiana, to San Antonio (where they raised their children), to Houston, to Canyon Lake, and finally back to Groesbeck in 2004. Through the years, Barbara became very proficient in organizing and packing and getting the family settled in their new homes. She was always very involved in all of the children’s school activities and all sports events. As always, she loved to “take charge and run it all.” She was a great member of any committee or group because she was a great worker. As the children were older, she worked some, and while living in San Antonio, she became involved as a partner in the VIP Home Builders construction company, where she was the financial controller. Later, when the family moved to Houston, she worked at Mann Eye Clinic as accounts payable clerk. She did not work after the next move to Canyon Lake, but became interested in golf, and was a member of a women’s golf club playing every week. Barbara was a great cook and loved to have the family together to experiment with her new recipes. She was known for making her "lists", and all holidays began with emailing her lists to the kids with all the plans. While she and Danny lived in Groesbeck, they made frequent trips to be with the kids and grandchildren in Houston, as often as she possibly could, and Barbara never lost her “I’ll take care of it” attitude. Her family was everything for her. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Leck and Macelle Tilley; her husband’s parents, Harvey and Nell Burleson; brother-in-law, Wyman Burleson, and sister-in-law, Pat Hutson. She is survived by her husband, Danny Burleson of Groesbeck; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Curtis Furra of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Michelle Burleson of Houston; and daughter, Kandra Burleson of Houston, as well as 7 grandchildren: Kinsey, Kylie, Edward, Marquis, Brandi, Haley, and Kevin, Jr., and 1 great grandchild, Austin. She is also survived by her brother, David Tilley; sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Don Driscoll; and brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jan Tilley, all of Groesbeck; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Betty and Bennie Stevens of Groesbeck and Jerry and Joanne Burleson of Waxahachie; and many nieces and nephews.
