Alta Faye Safford of Groesbeck passed away Friday February 6, 2015 at Scott & White Hillcrest in Waco. Graveside services will be held 2 PM Sunday February 8, 2015 at Hogan Cemetery with Rev. Tracy Sims officiating. Alta was born in the Box Church community on February 19, 1922 to Alfred and Annie (Lankford) Johnson. She grew up in the Groesbeck area before being united in marriage to Jimmy Biggs. In 1946 they bought a house on 25th Street in Waco and resided there for many years. After marriage they enjoyed travelling to Mexico and visiting Panama, Pensacola and Destine Florida. Family members recall an old rocking chair that was in the house and pictures of Jimmy in that chair. The chair is still currently in the house today. Following Jimmy’s death, Alta was united in marriage to Aubrey Stafford, who preceded her in death in 1992. Alta Faye was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Jimmy Biggs and second husband Aubrey Stafford and brothers, Joe, Ellis, Eugene Henry Johnson and brother-in-law Arnold Red Young. She is survived by her sister, Helen Young of Groesbeck; nephew and nieces, Rita Davidson and her children James Owens and wife Shannon, Lee Owens; nephew James Beck and wife Kim and their child Brent Beck; niece, Debbie Walton; nephew R.T. Beck and wife Peggy; nephew, Michael Young and wife Edith and their children, Alejandra Young and Mikey Young; niece, Mary Waldrop and her children, Lacey Baldwin and Kit Waldrop and numerous additional nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
