Sandra Kay Hughes-Popejoy

Sandra Kay Hughes-Popejoy, 68, of Groesbeck, Texas, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at 3:27 in the afternoon, surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, preceded by visitation from 1:00 until 2:00, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Faulkenberry Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wesley Popejoy, Byran Popejoy, Garrett Wynn, Brian Kurtz, James Todd and Burton Wynn, and Kelsey Hughes will be an honorary pallbearer. Sandra was born October 19, 1946 to James Mark Towery Sr. and Frenchie Daniels Towery at Snyder, Oklahoma, where she attended high school. She always lit up when she spoke about her beloved son Mark and her dear granddaughter Kelsey. She loved spending time with Kelsey. She lived a full rich life and was a loving giving person who enjoyed waiting on others and giving presents, but really enjoyed her one on one time with family members. She held close to Jesus and studied his word. When on her porch, you could always expect a cat to appear for some attention. Sandy never met a stray. In 2011, she retired from Texas State Parks & Wildlife after 15 years of service where she completed multiple CED certificates. She enjoyed traveling all over discovering nature. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mark Edward Hughes; a brother, James Mark Towery Jr.; and two sisters, Helen Towery Weaver and Laverne Towery Snow. She is survived by husband, Wesley Dwain Popejoy; granddaughter, Kelsey Ann Hughes; sister, Juanita Towery Ellis; brother, Bill Towery; step-children, Don and wife Sherri Popejoy, Michael and wife Carla Popejoy, and Anne (Popejoy) Wynn and husband Burton Wynn; six step-grandchildren;and eight step-great grandchildren.
