Clinton LaVell Tanner, Jr. passed away at Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck, at age 68. LaVell was born August 13, 1947 in Delhi, LA to Clinton LaVell Tanner, Sr. and Hazel (Smith) Tanner, the second of seven children. The family moved to Houston where he grew up and attended Cullen High School. LaVell was a “workaholic” all his life. He was working with his Dad as a painter until trouble with his ears caused him to need to work indoors. He worked then as an auto parts salesman for Napa in Porter, while living in Patton Village, until he retired. He was a “car-guy” who enjoyed his ’57 Chevy he had fixed up, and he also loved fishing and shooting pool every chance he had. He also enjoyed being around his nieces and nephews, and had a very close relationship with his Mother, being especially sad the past year after her death. He had been a resident at the Groesbeck LTC the past eight years. LaVell was preceded in death by his father in 1988; his sisters Ann Phillips and Linda Thompson; his brother Terry Tanner in 2012; and his mother Hazel Tanner in 2014. He is survived by his children, Crystal Tanner and Clinton LaVell Tanner III; brother and sister-in-law, Donald Ray and Claudette Tanner of Alvin; his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda Sue and Adam Collett of Groesbeck; brother, John Mark Tanner; and many nieces and nephews.
