Marie Louise (Oliver) Bond

Marie Louise (Oliver) Bond, of Groesbeck, passed away at Limestone Medical Center on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at age 66. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 16, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Groesbeck, with Reverend Steve Nance officiating. Marie was born July 1, 1950 to Rufus Walker Oliver and Dorothy (Jones) Oliver. She grew up in Groesbeck, graduating from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1968. After attending U.T. in Austin, she worked as a secretary for Citgo while living in Houston for many years. Marie moved back to Groesbeck after her father passed away in 1983, to take care of her mother, and bought a house across the street from her. She worked as a secretary for Marvalene Jones and for Bobby Reed, Attorney-at Law. She loved music (everything from classic country to Nat King Cole, dancing, cooking (from her extensive library of cookbooks), painting and crafts, making jewelry, and traveling. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Marie’s son Russell was born while she lived in Groesbeck, and Marie was involved in all of his school activities. She was active in civic organizations in Groesbeck such as Girl Scout cookie chairman; chairman and co-chairman of the Red Stocking Follies for two years, and participant of the Follies for three years; Boy Scouts Program Coordinator, room mother, and head room mother while Russell was in grades 1-12; Ex-Students Association of which she was president, secretary, and member for many years; school dance chaperone, field trip chaperone, soccer team Mom, and baseball team Mom. She was honored to be chosen as Homecoming Queen one year, and she remained involved in Groesbeck activities until her many health problems prevented her active participation. Marie loved her family above all else, especially her son Russell – the joy and light of her life. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Dorothy Oliver. She is survived by her son, Russell Bond of Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Rufus W. Oliver III and Kathleen Oliver of Houston; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah O. and Burke Watson of Kingwood; Ronald Bond of Houston; Neil and Mary Bond of Fallon; and: cousins, Barbara, Katy, Stephen, Ken, Jessica, Emma of New Orleans, LA.; Nathan, William, Walker, Matthew of Houston and Austin; and step-son, Clayton Bond and family of Port Neches. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie’s memory to the Groesbeck Ex-Student’s Association.
