Billie Ferrell (Rhodes) Slemp, of Lake Limestone, passed away at her home on Monday, October 12, 2009, at age 80. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the Little Flock Baptist Church, with Reverend Tad Traylor officiating. Burial will follow at the Little Flock Cemetery . Pallbearers will be Mickey Phillips, Greg Phillips, Mark Phillips, Scott Sherrill, Jason Sherrill, Steve Sherrill, Garrett Sherrill, and Julie Sherrill. Rod Willis will serve as Honorary Pallbearer. Mrs. Slemp was born on July 19, 1929, to Ernest W. Rhodes and Eula M. (Sparks) Rhodes in Leon County. She grew up and attended school in Jewett. Billie was united in marriage with Vernon I. “Pete” Slemp on April 13, 1955 at Victoria. They lived most of their life in Texas City, where he was employed and she was a homemaker. Mr. and Mrs. Slemp moved to the Lake Limestone area, near Jewett, in June 2007, living near her sister, Dorris. Billie really enjoyed fishing at Lake Limestone with Dorris. She also loved flower gardening and feeding the birds. She especially loved her grandchildren. She was a member of the Little Flock Baptist Church. Billie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon I. “Pete” Slemp earlier this year; a brother, Pete Rhodes; a son, Dalton Sherrill; and a brother-in-law, John Willis. She is survived by her daughter, Dorris Lorraine Phillips and husband John of San Antonio; son, Robert Gene Sherrill and wife Brenda of Jewett; son Joe Alligretta and wife Sue of Albany, New York; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Dorris (Rhodes) Willis of Jewett; and sister-in-law, Helen Rhodes of Jewett
