Dorla Sims

Dorla Sims of Groesbeck passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the Heart Hospital Baylor in Plano, TX. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, February 3, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Groesbeck Funeral Home, 1215 E. Yeagua St., Groesbeck, Texas, 76642. Graveside services for Dorla Sims will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at Lost Prairie Cemetery in Limestone County. Rev. Tracy Sims will officiate. Dorla was born in Idalou, Texas on September 3, 1931. She was raised by her grandmother and grew up in Idalou and Lorenzo. Dorla married Dwight Reece Sims on July 3, 1948, and shared over sixty-one years of marriage together before being separated by his death on September 24, 2010. She owned a dress shop in Groesbeck, Princess Fashion, for about ten years in the mid-1970s into the mid-1980s. Mrs. Sims loved to visit with people and had the heart of a caretaker. She would often visit residents in the nursing homes and offer to drive people to appointments. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Groesbeck, but regularly attended ladies groups and ministries at the Groesbeck Church of Christ and the First United Methodist Church in Groesbeck. She is survived by one son, Ricky Reece Sims & wife Jo Ann of Teague; one grandson, Sean Reece Sims of Carrollton; two great-grandchildren, Josephine Annata Sims and Clement Reece Sims; two sisters, Vicki Andros of Forks, Washington and Carlos Smith of Groesbeck; other relatives and friends.
