Jean Holman Pierce

April 16, 1930 — February 20, 2018

Jean Holman Pierce was born April 16, 1930 in Boswell, Oklahoma. She passed away February 20, 2018 at Groesbeck, TX. She was the last one of the Holman family of 8 kids. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Jon Honea of the Limestone Medical Center officiating. In late 1948, God put Jean and Lindsey Lee Pierce together. She got on the bus in Dallas heading to San Diego to live with her brother’s family and work and at the same time Lindsey got on the bus to report to his Navy dry docks assignment out of San Francisco. Her pretty blue eyes looked like laser beams drawing him to her. They sat together until the bus routes changed but by then they were already in love with each other. They corresponded and planned to marry, but he was not “of age -21.” So they went to Yuma, Arizona and were wed April 1, 1949. They only had four days together at that time, but have lived happily together for the next sixty-nine years. After living a year in Griffin, Georgia, they moved to Houston. While they lived in Houston, Jean worked at the City of Houston Vital Statistics Department for twenty-five years. Jean and Lindsey both retired in 1982 and moved to Lake Limestone where they already in the process of building their home. Jean enjoyed fishing and boating at the lake and she also enjoyed hunting with Lindsey including a hunting trip to Colorado. She enjoyed the neighbors. She was very good with computers, and in fact repaired a friend’s computer that got blown out of the house in a tornado. Actually, Jean could do anything she put her mind to – a result of growing up on a farm and learning to really work. Jean had a saying – “Dam the Torpedoes – Full Speed Ahead.” Jean was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and three sisters; and a grandson, Keith Pierce. She is survived by her husband, Lindsey Lee Pierce of Groesbeck (Lake Limestone); sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Jennifer Pierce of Houston and Ray and Dianna Pierce of Houston; grandsons, Scott Pierce and Aaron Pierce and granddaughter, Lindsey Pierce; and great grandchildren: Matthew, Scott, Bryan, Johnny, Joseph, Bridgett, Brittany, and Nina.
