William Thomas "W.T." Carr

William Thomas “W.T.” Carr, of Groesbeck, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Windsor Healthcare Residence, at age 91. Visitation will be Thursday, May 6, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Faulkenberry Cemetery Pavillion, with Brother Richard Williams officiating. Mr. Carr was born on December 2, 1918, to William Andrew Carr and Mary Elizabeth (Jackson) Carr in Limestone County. He grew up and attended school in Groesbeck, and started farming as a young adult. W.T. was united in marriage with Mary Alice Shamblin on February 16, 1938, at Mexia. They lived and farmed in the Shiloh area until he was drafted into the U. S. Army during World War II. He served in the Army in the headquarters unit of the 104th Infantry Division, known as the Timberwolves, with most of the time in Germany and Europe. After release from the Army, W.T. farmed a short time and then started work as a mechanic at the Ford dealership in Groesbeck. He later worked as a mechanic at Ferguson Chevrolet in Groesbeck until he retired in 1981. W.T. was always talented in working with his hands and completed many sketches and wood carvings, including chain links and other designs, a miniature covered wagon, and metal figures. W.T..liked to walk and really enjoyed walking and exploring around the area where he grew up. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck. He had been a resident at Windsor Healthcare for the last six years, and remained active and enjoying walking until the last year. W.T. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary who passed away in 1999, and three siblings, who died shortly after childbirth. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Ronnie and Dolores Ann Carr of Pasadena.
