Louise "Lucy" Cooper

November 27, 1928 — June 15, 2010

Louise Cooper, of Groesbeck, affectionally known as Nanny and "Lucy", passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at a hospital in Pasadena. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Anthony Klonaris, Jack Taylor, Trey Taylor, Jerry Don Shields, Michael Sidney Lewis, and Raymond Loper. Great grandson, Jason Payton will be an honorary pallbearer. Louise was born on November 27, 1928 to Zackie Benjamin Lewis and Winnie Mae (Cranford) Lewis in Groesbeck. She attended school at Shiloh through the sixth grade, and then the family moved to Houston. She met and married Jesse Loper in Houston on August 18, 1945, and they had six children. Louise worked as a bookkeeper and also was an excellent seamstress for the public. Later, in 1973, Louise was wed the second time to Walter Cooper. They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a couple years, then back to Fredricksburg where they retired. Louise was given the nickname, “Lucy” by a child in the family, and also known to all as Nanny. She moved back to her roots at Lake Limestone with her daughter, Darlene in February 2002 and then into Groesbeck. Louise was an active member of the Oletha Baptist Church, and the Groesbeck Order of Eastern Star 810. She continued to love sewing and quilting all her life. Being a breast cancer survivor of 22 years, Lucy was working on a quilt to be auctioned off for the next “Relay for Life” in Pasadena at the time of her death. A new great granddaughter, Jaedyn Scott was born within hours after Nanny’s death. The Lord took one grand lady home and presented a precious baby girl to the family. Though the family will grieve for their loss, Lucy has “Gone Home.” Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter James Cooper; sons Cecil Earl Loper, Jesse Don Loper, and Baby Boy Loper and daughter, Brenda Carol Loper; brothers, Z. O. Lewis, Dick Lewis, and Jerry Wayne Lewis. She is survived by a son, Lonny Loper of Pasadena; a daughter, Darlene Klonaris of Groesbeck; granddaughter, Bobbie Payton and husband David of LaPorte; granddaughter, Shanna Taylor and husband Jack of Pasadena; granddaughter, Sharitha Loper and spouse Gene Scott of Pasadena; five great grandchildren, Jack “Trey” Taylor of Pasadena, Jessica Scott of Pasadena, Jason Payton of LaPorte, Airel Scott of Pasadena, and Jaedyn Scott of Pasadena; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Diane Lewis of Pasadena; and many loving nieces and nephews and friends; and her precious “Baby Girls”, Honey Bee and Sweet Pea
