Carl Edmond Lewis

Carl Edmond Lewis, of Groesbeck, went home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at age 91. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 on Friday, October 15, 2010, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the Lost Prairie Church, with Rev. Rob Rolison and Rev. J. R. Tapley officiating. Burial will follow afterwards at Old Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Eakins, Anthony Wietzikoski, Ricky Rand, Danny Saling, Mark Warnell, and Sam Thornal. Carl was born on July 28, 1919 to Sam Houston Lewis and Pauline (Stone) Lewis at Thornton. He grew up around Box Church, and graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1937, and then attended one year at Westminster College in Tehuacana. Carl was united in marriage with Juanell Walker on January 12, 1940, and they lived and farmed around Donie. Carl was a veteran of World War II, serving three years in the U.S. Air Force. After he was discharged, he farmed, and then the family moved to Irving, where he went to work for Bell Helicopter. They lived around the Fort Worth area for the next 20 years. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis moved back to Groesbeck in the 70's when he retired. Carl loved to garden, and raised a big garden to share with all his family. He also enjoyed raising cows and goats. Carl loved and regarded his church, his family, and his friends as the most important things in life. Carl and Juanell had been married 57 years when she passed away in 1997. He later met and married Hattie Yarborough in 1999, and they made their home in Groesbeck until their deaths. Carl was a member of the Lost Prairie Baptist Church and served as a Deacon; he rarely if ever missed a service. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Juanell Lewis in 1997; his second wife, Hattie Mae Lewis on October 8, 2010; his two sisters, Lillian Williams and Edna Shugart; his two brothers, Roy Lewis and John Lewis; his son-in-law, O. J. Jennings; and a granddaughter, Donna Ann Hatley (in 1964.) He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carlene and Bobby Rolison of Itasca, Ann and Darryl Hatley of Groesbeck, and Linda Jennings of Springtown; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Gwyn and James Eakins, June and Anthony Wietzikoski, Tammy and Ricky Rand, John and Kim Hatley, Jerry Jennings, Rhonda and Danny Saling, Rob and Gloria Rolison, Kathy and Mike Oliverio, Michael and Michelle Jennings, and Steve and Anne Rolison; eighteen great grandchildren;2 great-great grandchildren; and the extended family of his late wife, Hattie Lewis, which included many nieces and nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
