Jimmie Dean Karner, of Groesbeck, Tx, passed from this life on October 20, 2010, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 73 years old. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Marcus Sheffield of the First Baptist Church of Mexia officiating. Jimmie Dean was born on January 26, 1937, to Benton Farrel Douglas and Irene (Frasier) Douglas in Tennessee. Jimmie Dean and her family lived in Pittsburg, PA until moving to the Dallas area around 1972. She was preceded in death by her husband of 18 years, Philpot Marquis Karner III of Mexia. She is survived by a daughter, Christina L. Taylor and husband Gregg of Big Lake; a son, Peter J. Carr and wife Sherrill of Dallas; two step daughters, Shelley A. Abraham and husband Terry of Coppell, Tx, and Lisa K. Phillips and husband David of Hurst; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Glenda Krueger of Elm Grove, WI, and Wanda Shapiro of Philadelphia, PA; one sister-in-law, Ann Mossburg of Plum, PA; one brother,Robert Douglas of Haltom City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmie Dean loved working in her garden and spending time with her family, traveling around the state of Texas to all her kids and grandkids events. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and caregiver. She opened her doors to all she met and treated them like family. She was an all-around wonderful person with a big heart. For the last several years, she enjoyed a very special relationship with James (Buddy) Lenamond, embracing his family as her own. His children are Desi Lenamond, Dena and Rob Way, Scott and Gretchen Lenamond, DJ and Kenny Clark, Jamie and Ron Baird, and nine wonderful grandchildren, Desi Jr., Christine, Jordan, Micha, Danielle, Julian, Brady, Jake, and Mia. Thank you for all the hugs and kisses. Jimmie Dean, or “Nanny,” as she was known to her grandkids, will be forever missed. Take care of all the birds up there. We love you and miss you terribly.
