Amity Tyler McDonald

January 5, 1978 — July 6, 2024

Groesbeck

Amity Tyler McDonald, age 46, of Groesbeck, has gone from this earthly life to Heaven when she passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, after a long and hard battle with her health for the past five years.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel and funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12,  in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

Amity was born January 5, 1978, to Andrea Elaine (Skinner) Sexton, in Texarkana, TX. She grew up as an army brat, with the family moving from the Texarkana area and living in Germany a few years during her childhood, and then moved back to Texarkana where she attended Texas High School.

As a young lady of 22, she became the instant mother of four children during her first marriage, and her own daughter, Piper was born. In addition to devoting her life as a mother and homemaker, she also worked at the Post Office while living in Texarkana.

Later in her life, she moved to the Freestone County area. Amity was united in marriage with Kenneth John McDonald on October 23, 2010, in Butler, TX. and two sons were born to this family. She worked for over five years in the Brookshires' bakery at Fairfield and some of the time in surrounding towns.

The most important thing in her life were her children. She made sure everything was done to enrich her children’s lives in ways she did not have growing up. She made sure birthday parties were special and it mattered to her that all the details matched. She loved to decorate and was a maximalist and loved bright colors. She especially loved collecting crosses and had many for wall and other décor and on clothing and jewelry. She also liked hearts and angels, and her favorite flowers were tulips.

She kept busy and left many items she had made for her family to cherish. She enjoyed making jewelry and made many quilts for the family. She always included something she had made with other gifts to the family at Christmas. She also enjoyed gardening, both indoors and outside.

Amity spent many quality hours of long talks with her children. During her illness, they would pile up in bed with her to talk. Her daughter considers Amity as the strongest and most resilient woman she ever knew, and the best friend to she and her brothers.

Amity was preceded in death by her grandparents; her mother, Andrea Elaine Skinner, and stepfather, Bill Thedford.

She is survived by her husband, Kenny McDonald of Groesbeck; daughter, Piper Rutledge of Texarkana; sons, Devlin McDonald and Miles McDonald of Groesbeck; sister, Keri Sexton of Waco; sister and brother-in-law, Casey and Duane Triebel of Waco; and sisters-in-law, Michelle McDonald and Sara McDonald of Teague.
