Betty Porter of Groesbeck passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at home.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at the Groesbeck Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 PM on Friday, September 11, 2020 at Fort Parker Cemetery with Pastor Steve Nance officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Blackstock, Tom Lockwood, Jason Lockwood, and the Wednesday Prayer Group.

Betty was born March 10, 1928 in Bowie, Texas to Jess and Vera (Clark) Parrish, the younger of two girls.  Throughout her childhood the family moved often following their dad’s jobs in the oil industry.  She graduated from Bowie High School and later attended TCU and obtained her BS degree, majoring in English.  While in the Fort Worth area, Betty married Ralph Porter in 1946 and followed his football coaching career to Childress, Nocona and ultimately retiring to the Houston area.

She is preceded in death by parents, Jess and Vera Parrish; sister, Pat Pardue and son-in-law Joe Longoria.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Paige Longoria of Groesbeck and Patricia Douglass of Dillingham, Alaska and grandson, Chris Douglass of Boston, Massachusetts and many friends and community members of the Groesbeck area.
