Billy Dan Thomason

Billy Dan Thomason was born in Fort Parker, Texas, to Paul Thomason and Margaret Pesnell Thomason, later known as Margaret Oswalt.  He was interred in Fort Parker Memorial Park at Groesbeck, TX. by his mother on Monday, June 22, 2026.

Billy graduated from high school in Fort Worth, Texas, and went on to build a long and successful career. He worked as a telegraph operator for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in California. Billy also worked as a freight broker, retiring from that profession as well.

Billy lived a full and honorable life. He was married for 44 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Joy Thomason, until her passing. Billy loved her dearly, as well as her beautiful singing voice.

After Joy’s passing, Billy moved to Arizona, where he spent the latter years of his life.

Billy had many interests that brought him much joy. He loved ballroom dancing and continued to dance into his later years, including dancing aboard a cruise ship all the way to Europe while he was in his eighties.

Billy also enjoyed gospel music, hearing about Jesus, swimming, dining out, John Wayne movies, western-themed art, and Rams football.

Billy was also a Mason and valued the fellowship and traditions of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Thomason and Margaret Pesnell Thomason Oswalt; his brother, Staton Earl Thomason; and his beloved wife, Joy Thomason.

He is survived by his sister, Patricia; his nieces and nephews; and many cousins and extended family members.

Billy will be remembered as an honorable man who lived a full and successful life. He was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by all who knew him. His family takes comfort in knowing he is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
