Brenda Joy Compton

February 27, 1957 — April 24, 2022

Brenda Joy Compton, originally from Waxahachie, passed away at Skilled Care of Mexia Nursing Home on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at age 65.

Visitation will be held in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 30, 2022, beginning at 1:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30th, in the Chapel of Groesbeck Funeral Home, with Chaplain John Carabin officiating.  Burial will follow in the Thornton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ashton Kopp, Randy Wright, Brad Bodine, Jody Bodine, Roger Compton, and Mike Kelso.  Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Fisher, Donnie Fisher, and Jarrett Bodine.

Brenda was born February 27, 1957, in Waxahachie to Albert Kelso, Jr. and Elsie Marie Fisher Kelso.    She grew up there and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1975.

Brenda continued to live in Waxahachie most of her life, where she raised her daughter and son.    She enjoyed her time with her children, attending their ballgames and school activities.   When her grandchildren were later born she enjoyed any and all time she could spend with them.

Brenda commuted to Dallas daily while she worked for twenty years at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, in billing and collections. She retired in 2016.   Family was her true interest in life. Brenda was incredibly self-less and was always glad to jump in and help where she could.   She was more interested in helping others than in herself.

After Brenda retired, she lived in Rosebud a few years, then moved to Skilled Care Nursing Home in Mexia.   Brenda grew up in the Baptist Church and she enjoyed church services at the nursing home and participating in all the activities there.   She loved her time at Skilled Care; it was like a second family.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Albert Kelso, and other extended family members.

She is survived by her mother, Elsie Kelso of Groesbeck; daughter, Misty Kopp of Prosper; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Maria Compton of Austin; grandson, Ashton Kopp of Prosper; granddaughter, Brooklyn Kopp of Prosper; grandson, Luke Compton of Austin; sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Raymond Harlan of Thornton; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sandi Kelso of Rockett; her uncle, Harold Fisher of Waxahachie; and her nieces and nephews, Jody Bodine, Brad Bodine, and Chelsi Kelso.
