It is with heavy hearts and immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Chad Smith, our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. No other services are planned.
Chad was born in Paris, Texas to parents, Larry and Frances Smith on September 22, 1979. For his 2nd. birthday two years later, on September 22, 1981, his birthday present was the birth of his brother Jared.
He relocated with his family in 1986 to Kosse and he graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1998 in the top 10% of his class. He participated in band, baseball and football, and other things that we are sure his classmates will remember and smile. Chad made friends quickly and from the outpouring of messages and calls we have received, he had many. Chad could not tell you what he had for breakfast, but he could give you play by play details of a baseball or football game from 20 years ago. His recollection of all things sports was amazing.
Chad’s greatest achievement came with the birth of his son, Axton. Chad was a single parent and had raised Axton by himself and was adored by his son. He and Axton fished, hunted, and spent many hours together going to baseball and football games. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan and Houston Astro fan, a trait that Axton has inherited. He liked to talk Cowboy/Saint trash with his Louisiana co-workers and no doubt he will be missed when the football season starts again.
Chad was an ROV pilot and absolutely loved his job and co-workers. His job had taken him to numerous countries and numerous seas. In the course of his employment, he met many, many people and the family appreciates their reaching out to us with their kind words.
Chad was preceded in death by his father, Larry Smith; maternal grandparents, Grady and Sue Havard; paternal grandparents, Elmer Smith and Maxine Smith Gowen; and uncle, Ray Brantner.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his adored son, Axton; mother, Frances Beseda and step-father, Bobby; brother, Jared Smith; his beloved nephew, Rhett Smith; step-brothers, Steven Beseda and wife Maggie and their children, and Paul Beseda and wife Amy and their children; step-sister DeAnna Phillips and husband Jonathan and their children; aunt, Mary Brantner; and other cousins and relatives and many friends and neighbors.
Chad loved to talk and had the gift of gab. We anxiously await to hear his voice again.
