Charles Allen Carroll

September 1, 1942 — April 22, 2025

Groesbeck

Friends and family will gather Tuesday, May 6 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel to celebrate the life of Charles Allen Carroll, 82, of Groesbeck, who died Tuesday, April 22 at Baylor Scott & White - Hillcrest in Waco.

Mr. Carroll was born September 1, 1942, in Sugar Land to Doris (Wright) and Adell Carroll. He grew up in West Columbia, where he met his high school sweetheart, Virgie Pyka Carroll. The couple married November 30, 1963.

He began what would be a lifelong career in the automobile business by selling cars at his uncle’s lot. In his younger days, he won top salesman awards working at Ford dealerships. Over the years, he also owned a wrecker service, a tire service, sprayed insulation in the industrial sector, and worked in the oilfield. He was known as a hard worker and could be found laboring from sunup to sundown.

This work experience gave him a McGyver-like ability to repair almost anything. Give him a two-by-four, some baling wire, and a stick of gum and he could build it or fix it. This was known by the family as “Charlesing it” – it might be unsightly, but it would work.

Mr. Carroll also had a lifelong love of animals and regularly put their needs before his own. Over time, he took care of all creatures such as injured wildlife, orphaned livestock, and other abandoned animals. In his later years, he had the greatest affection for his Chihuahuas. His ride-or-die partner and main sidekick was Jasmine, who was by his side the morning he passed.

A public reception and visitation will be held from 4:30 - 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel for friends and family to fellowship and share memories.

Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virgie Pyka Carroll; his daughter, Christina Price and husband Jonathan of Groesbeck; son Matthew and wife Gladys of El Paso; and grandchildren Wyatt and Marlee Price of Groesbeck and Diego Carroll of El Paso.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to an animal shelter of your choice in memory of Charles’ dedication to and love for animals.
