Charles Edward Day, Jr., of Groesbeck, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at his home with his family by his side.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 19, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Word of Life Family Worship Center (193 LCR 412, Groesbeck), with Pastor Randy Ayers officiating and music by Stacy Duffield. Burial will follow in Fort Parker Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Colt Allred, Keith Day, Johnnie Day, James Culverhouse, Albert Boytis, Sr., Dan Gomez and Caleb Gomez.
Charles was born September 11, 1960, in Shreveport, LA., to Charles Edward Day, Sr. and Gwendolyn Jane Miller Day. He grew up in Benton, LA. After high school, he worked for Clement Industries in Minden, LA. as a welder for many years.
He enjoyed rodeo and rode bulls a few times. He was a volunteer fire fighter in Arcadia, LA. He liked to hunt and bass fish in tournaments in Louisiana.
Charles moved to Groesbeck in 2001 and worked for Lide Tank Co, then worked for General Dynamics in communications tower construction for twelve years.
In 2010, he began racing dirt track cars. He enjoyed his last dirt track race less than a week before his death. Charles attended Word of Life Church in Groesbeck for over fourteen years, and he was a loving father and grandfather.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dedra and Mike Lawson of Coushatta, LA; daughter and son-in-law, Jaimie and Dan Gomez of Groesbeck; and son, Christopher Day, Sr. of Coushatta, LA. His ten grandchildren are: Kathren LeJeune, Wyatt LeJeune, Jesse LeJeune, Mathieu LeJeune, Shelby Day, Emily Day, Chris Day, Jr., Dominic Day, Isabella Gomez, and Caleb Gomez. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and John Fields; brother and sister-in-law, Johnnie and Kelly Day; and sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Randy Wilson.
