He is survived by his beloved wife, Susanna; his beautiful daughters, Jodi (Jason) Palmer and Kayla Bryson; his cherished grandchildren, Baylee, Trevor, Trent, Bryndle, and Hattie Jo; his sisters, Susie (Paul), Bridgett, and Connie (Lonnie), and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was born on January 25, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to Clarence and Lina Barton. He grew up in Aldine, where his love for rodeo and horses started early. Alongside his sisters, he spent countless days at Circle 8 Rodeo, winning multiple buckles in relay races and calf roping. Rodeo wasn’t just a hobby for Joe—it was part of who he was. In his younger years, he continued chasing that passion and even made the pro rodeo circuit. Joe had the fastest time at the Austin Rodeo in 1974, he still has The Governor’s Trophy to prove it.

Joe learned the trade of horseshoeing from his dad and carried that skill with pride throughout his life. Horses, arenas, and the cowboy way of life were always close to his heart. Later in life, he combined his love for rodeo with his faith by serving as Arena Director at a Cowboy Church in Montgomery, TX.

Above all, Joe was a man of faith and family. In 1995, he gave his life to the Lord and was baptized alongside his family at Crooked Pine Cowboy Church. His relationship with God became a guiding force in his life, and he lived out his faith with strength and devotion.

Joe spent 41 wonderful years with the love of his life, Susanna. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and creating memories that will last forever. He was a proud husband, dad, and papa who loved his family deeply.

Joe will be remembered for his cowboy spirit, strong faith, love for horses and rodeo, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. His legacy lives on in his family, the lives he touched, and the memories made in arenas, churches, and around home.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles.

Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
