Charline Anderau

May 3, 1939 — June 3, 2024

Waco, TX

Charline Martin Anderau, 85, passed away peacefully in her home on June 3, 2024, in Waco, TX, surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the Chapel at Groesbeck Funeral Home, with Pastor Jon Honea officiating.  Due to the wet conditions, burial at Kirk Cemetery will be held at a later date when conditions allow.

Charline was born on May 3, 1939, in Ben Hur, TX to Homer S. Martin and Lois DeVore Martin. In June 1945, the family moved to Texas City, TX where she grew up and graduated from Texas City High in 1957.

After graduation, Charline attended a business school and then moved to Houston where she married and had all three of her children, Charles “Ronnie”, Jimmy, and Tammy.

For the next 18 years, she was a devoted housewife and mother. In 1971, she attended a college at the Mainland, graduated with a vocational degree in Nursing, and was licensed by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She spent the next 40 years pursuing this selfless career.

Through her years in nursing, she worked in numerous hospitals and long-term care facilities between Houston, Galveston, Irving, Dallas, Stephenville, and even into Mississippi. While working in Long Term Care, she devoted herself to giving her residents the utmost care and retaining the respect and dignity they deserved. She always treated her residents like family and went above and beyond.

In May of 2011, due to a heart condition, she was forced to retire from the career she so loved and she moved back to Texas to live with family while getting her health back in order. She then spent the remainder of her retirement years living at the Salvation Army William Booth Apartments, where she made several new friends.

She enjoyed sports, loved playing cards (Hand and Foot was her favorite game), attending church, Ladies’ Lunches, crocheting, arts and crafts, being of service in the Snack Shack, and serving on the Resident Committee. She watched "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" every day since it debuted.  Most of all, she loved her family.

There was never a question of whether you were unconditionally loved by Charline. She went out of her way to make a point to show you. She called to check in, never forgot a birthday, sent out cards and gifts, and if you didn’t answer; she left a voicemail. Her sisters, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her life. Even in her last months while battling pancreatic cancer, her calls continued. She spent her final days surrounded by her family, playing with her great grandchildren, and laughing with the biggest smile on her face.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father; her son; Charles “Ronnie” Anderau; sisters, Mary Wilkerson, Patsy Chandler, and Peggy Phillips; brother, Robert Martin; grandson, Jeremy Anderau; and great-grandsons, Zachary Taylor and Jaxon Crist.

She is survived by her son, Jim Anderau and wife Tammy of Waco, TX; daughter, Tammy Abunemeh of Waco, TX; sisters, JoAnn Walker of Longview, TX and Ruth Hutto of Frankston, TX; brother, Homer D. Martin and wife Anna of Athens, TX; grandchildren, Kenneth Taylor and wife Sarah of LaVernia, TX, Curtis Anderau and wife Chelsea of Robinson, TX, Megan Anderau-Mays and husband Chris of Waco, TX, Samira Abunemeh of Philadelphia,MS, Mariam Abunemeh of Horn Lake, MS, and Zachary Abunemeh of Philadelphia, MS; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and loving friends.
