David Wayne Herod passed away peacefully at Scott and White Hospital following a severe stroke at the age of 71. He was born on July 16, 1954, in Groesbeck, Texas, to Doris (“Bunk”) and Vada Herod.
David grew up in Groesbeck, where he was raised on the family farm alongside his siblings. During his childhood, he spent countless hours working beside his parents performing farm chores, raising and selling vegetables, baling hay, and caring for cattle. These early experiences helped shape his strong work ethic, practical skills, and appreciation for honest labor. He graduated from Groesbeck High School before continuing his education at Navarro College.
David devoted many years of dedicated service to the Mexia State School, where he worked in maintenance until his retirement. Known for his dependable nature and practical skills, he took pride in keeping things running smoothly and was always willing to help wherever he was needed.
In addition to his career, David enjoyed home renovation. Over the years, and in his spare time, he purchased properties, restored and improved homes, and rented them to others. He also volunteered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, helping build homes for others.
As a child, he collected comic books and developed a lifelong love of reading, enjoying books of many kinds throughout his life. He was an avid reader and always preferred reading a book over reading on an electronic devise.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Doris (“Bunk”) and Vada Herod, and his brother, Bill Herod.
He is survived by his sister, Glynis Rosas and her husband Joseph Rosas of Groesbeck; his niece Kris Staggs and nephew Brian Rosas; along with extended family members and many friends.
Because David’s passing follows the recent loss of his brother Bill, the family will hold a combined private family memorial service to celebrate and honor the lives of both brothers.
