Dolly "Crickett" Laverne Thompson

April 13, 1933 — January 20, 2022

Dolly Laverne "Crickett" Thompson, of Teague, passed away at Fairfield Nursing and Rehab on January 20, 2022, at age 88.

Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Monday, January 24, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Faulkenberry Cemetery, with Pastor Jon Honea officiating.

Dolly (called Crickett by her mother and most everyone else all her life) was born on April 13, 1933 to Coleman Wayne Lamb and Ruby Beatrice (Shinault) Lamb in Dawson, and grew up in Tehuacana.

Early in her life, Crickett’s first marriage gave her three sons, Donnie, Gary, and Danny Wilson, and her second marriage to Johnny Driver gave her another son, Butch Driver.  Her later marriage to Don Rutherford enlarged her home to include her son, Vic Rutherford and a stepson, Mike Rutherford.   Later in life, Dolly was married to Ruben Cole Thompson.

Crickett worked hard all her life.  As a waitress she served many customers in Mexia through the years at George’s Café, Spunky’s Café and Winkler’s Café.  She worked many years at Mexia State School, and then later at Walmart in the clothing department.  She was very friendly and smiled a lot.  Her companion was her pet dog, Baby Girl.

Crickett continued staying active at home, working in her yard pulling up weeds, until just before entering the nursing home in Fairfield about four months ago.   Although her son, Vic lived nearby and was of assistance to her, it became unsafe for her to remain at home after several falls.

Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; her son Gary Wayne Wilson; son, Butch Driver; stepson, Mike Rutherford; brother, Maynard Lamb; sister, June Pickett; niece Kathleen; and husband Ruben Thompson (in 1996.)

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Vic and Delunda Rutherford of Fairfield; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Janice Wilson of Bryan; son Donnie Wilson of Teague; and numerous grandchildren.
