Donald "Don" Eugene Unsell

Donald “Don” Eugene Unsell, of Kosse, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at age 84.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorial services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2nd. in the Chapel, led by his son, Donald Jr. and Reverend Tracy Sims of the Central Baptist Church of Thornton.

Don was born on March 20, 1941, to Coy Russell Unsell and Edna Mae Unsell in Sikeston, Missouri. The family lived in Cape Girardeau until he was twelve, and then they moved to Memphis, TN, where he attended high school and participated in ROTC, and graduated in 1959.

Don joined the United States Air Force where he served four years, with one year in Korea, and he maintained the missile systems in the Air Force.

Donald was united in marriage with Delores Younts on January 19, 1963, and they lived in Great Falls, Montana until his honorable discharge. Don received a calling to the ministry and they moved to Houston where he attended Gulf Coast Bible College, graduating in 1969.

The first church he pastored was in Alaska; throughout his life in the ministry, the family moved to Michigan, Indiana, Georgia, and back to Montana. When he retired, they moved to Kosse, Texas thirteen years ago to be near his son’s family and to enjoy warmer winters.

Don had always been an outdoors man, who enjoyed hunting and fishing and horses. He furnished his family with a bear rug from Alaska, and he had loved to ride horseback while working on some ranches when they lived in Montana.

After moving to Kosse, Don served the Lord at the church in Stranger for eight years, and then he and Delores attended the Central Baptist Church in Thornton.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bonnie.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Unsell; son and daughter-in-law, Donald E. Unsell, Jr. and Sally Unsell of Bryan; daughter, Donna D. Cambell of Palmer, AK; and four grandchildren: Angela and husband Darren Hansen, Anthony Irsik, Christina Irsik, and Samantha Irsik. He also has a younger brother, David Unsell.
