Dora Lou Little

Dora Lou Little, of Groesbeck, is now at peace after her passing on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at age 89.

Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Richard Williams of the Groesbeck Church of Christ officiating and the eulogy by Dennis Wilson.  Burial will follow in Faulkenberry Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeffery Wimberly, Jr., Chris Wimberly, Lane Wimberly, Dakota Wimberly, Clay Wimberly, Toryee Wimberly, Tommy Little, and Anthony Villa.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Little, Raymond Villa, Seth Wimberly, Wesley Pittman, and Jessie Barraza.

Dora was born May 3, 1936, to Jake Downey and Dona Mozelle Williamson Downey at Box Church, the oldest one of thirteen children. She grew up in Calvert, always helping with the children and family chores. From the time she was born to the day she passed, she helped raise children. Dora graduated early from Calvert High School at the age of 16, in the Class of 1952.

Dora moved to Dallas to begin working, and there she met Roy whose brother and sister-in-law, Orien and Lucille Little were living in Dallas.

Dora Lou and Roy Mitchell Little were united in marriage on January 2, 1954, and they loved each other fiercely, all of their life. They moved to East Texas where they lived in various towns while he worked for the telephone company.

They moved to Groesbeck in 1957 and raised their two daughters, placing them on the highest level with their great love for each other. She made sure to provide everything they needed, including sewing for the girls, and supporting them in their school activities.

Dora worked at the County Clerk’s office in the Courthouse as well as working for MANPOWER and Roy worked for the phone company. As a side business they bought Webb’s Tailor Shop which they all helped run, including Roy’s brother, Orien.

Dora began a long career working at the Mexia State School in 1973, running the eye clinic where she assisted Dr. Wesley Pittman. During her career she earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at Tyler, driving to classes after a full day of work, until graduating. She was also taking care of all her family during this time. After 48 years, Dora retired, and then went back to work again in the same job, working until she was 86 years of age.

Dora was recognized by her family as the most selfless, hard-working woman they have known. She was loved not only by her entire family but by every kid who came in contact with her and known to all as Nan. Dora was a member of the Church of Christ of Groesbeck.

Her grandson notes that when Nan passed away, it must have been something special to see the reunion of Roy and Dora in Heaven.

Dora Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy M. Little; brothers, Billy Downey and Bo Downey, and sister, Barbara Popham.

She is survived by her daughters, Kynda Morehead of Groesbeck; daughter Mitzi (Raymond) Villa of Groesbeck; grandson/son, Chris Wimberly of Thornton; grandson, Jeffery Wimberly, Jr. (Britney) of Thornton; Clay Wimberly (Brooke) of Thornton; great grandson/son Dakota Wimberly (Alyssa) of Groesbeck; grandson, Anthony Villa (JoAnna) of Lewisville, Kim Villa; and numerous other great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She is also survived by 9 siblings: Dorothy Wilson (Cecil) of Groesbeck, Jack Downey of Hutto, Jerry Downey of Houston, Martha Paschal of Round Rock, Kathy Clifford (Trevor) of Michigan, Roy Downey of Crandall, Butch Downey of Cameron, Linda Cotten of Tyler, and Mary Dockall (Gerald) of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her extended family also includes her very special and well-loved niece, Dawn Price, and Trisha Hahn-Taylor.
