Dorothy was born October 20, 1942, to John Earl and Johnnie Elzada (Bennett) Ogletree in Kosse, where she grew up. After her school years, she moved to Fort Worth, where she met her future husband on a blind date.
Dorothy was united in marriage with Jesse Otis Blakeney on April 15, 1958. After several prior moves, they made their home in Fort Worth, where they raised their family and lived until moving to Mexia seven years ago.
Dorothy was a wife and mother of seven children, so she led a very busy life, as she also worked outside the home. She raised her kids to be responsible for their cleaning chores, strict like a “drill sergeant.” She worked as a caretaker in a nursing home, and then she and Jesse were both truck drivers for Dugan Trailers in Groesbeck, traveling all over many states. He drove one truck while she drove another one, following each other. She was known by her CB Handle “Midnight Angel.” She also worked in the warehouse at Dugan Trailers.
Dorothy was a dedicated fan of the Texas Rangers and attended many of their games when she lived in Fort Worth and followed them on TV the rest of her life. She kept all the “stats” in many spiral notebooks and could tell anyone all the details play by play. Nolan Ryan was her favorite player. She lost some of her interest in the last few years as her favorite players were gone.
Dorothy had a large family to love. She enjoyed visits with the grandchildren and great grandchildren when they could come to her home and she was loved by them.
Dorothy was preceded death by her parents; her husband, Jesse in 2020 after 62 years together; and her daughter, Johnnie Roberts in 2025.
She is survived by her children, Valerie and David McDaniel of Groesbeck, Brenda Mora of Mexia, Billie Blakeney of Halifax, VA, Lynda Tillotson of Loving, TX, Jesse Blakeney, Jr. of Mexia, and Julie and Hershul Smith, Sr. of Fort Worth; 21 grandchildren; 60+ great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
