Dorothy was born on March 22, 1925, to Leonard Earl and Ruth Cox Wright. She grew up in Groesbeck and graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1943.

Dorothy was united in marriage when she was right out of school, with Alvis Medders, who was serving in the military. Within 6 months after their marriage, Alvis was deployed to the South Pacific, where in fought in battles at New Guinea and the Philippines.

While Alvis was serving in the military, a son, Larry Gene, was born in 1944. After the war was over and Alvis returned home, two more children were born: Eddie Wayne born in 1951 and Cathy Joan born in 1954.

Dorothy was a housewife and mother until going to work for Gulf States Telephone Company in December 1959, retiring from the company in 1983.

Dorothy’s husband, Alvis, passed away in May 1989. In 1992, Dorothy met and married Edgar White, becoming step-mom to Kenneth White and his wife Kathy and Gloria Bryant; also she was Grandma Dorothy to five grandsons and one granddaughter.

Dorothy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Groesbeck. She petitioned to join Eastern Star in 1951 and was an active member of Eastern Star of Groesbeck, Chapter #810, where she served in the stations leading up to serving as Worthy Matron many times.

Her hobbies included crocheting, cake decorating, cooking and gardening, and helping family and friends in times of need. Her favorite Bible verse was the 23rd Psalm.

Dorothy loved all of the gospel songs, but especially Precious Memories, which was a part of her family heritage. The words and music were written in 1925 by her uncle and grandfather Wright. She grew up sitting on the front porch at night singing the old gospel songs with her father, who had a beautiful bass voice, and her mother. She enjoyed singing all her life, including singing a solo at church or singing with others.

On March 22, 2025, Dorothy celebrated her 100th Birthday, with a large gathering of friends and family, hosted by Mark Zeman and Karen Wood, at the MAC building in Groesbeck. Dorothy beautifully greeted each one of approximately 100 guests who attended.
