Jill (Little) Basden

September 20, 1960 — March 19, 2023

Groesbeck

Dwaina Jill (Little) Basden, of Groesbeck, ended her battle with cancer, at her home on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at age 62.

Visitation will be held in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 31, 2023 -  from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Burial will be a private family only ceremony.

Jill was born on September 20, 1960, to Stanley Dwain Little and Barbara (Pelz) Little in Harlingen, TX.    She grew up in Groesbeck and graduated from Groesbeck High School where she had been a member of the Groesbeck High School Band and played on the tennis team.  Attending rock and roll concerts was a favorite activity in her youth, as well as all her life.

Jill met her future husband Jim who was living in Oregon, when Jim’s parents told him of the cute little girl who lived across the fence behind their house in Groesbeck.    Jim came to Texas and fell in love with that cute girl.

Jim Basden and Jill Little were united in marriage in Groesbeck, TX on July 4, 1980.     After a period of time together, they spent ten years apart and Jill moved to Virginia.    When she moved back to Texas, Jim and Jill were reunited and began life together with the addition of their two sons, Eli and Noah.

Jill began nursing school at Navarro College in Mexia while Eli was a few years old, and became a certified LVN.   She worked for several local medical offices and nursing homes in the county.    She provided wonderful medical care to her many patients during her 30-year nursing career, and retired only when her health began to deteriorate about 8 months ago.

Jill had always worked night shifts and was therefore a night owl.  On her days off she would spend her nights working in her “She Shed,” where she enjoyed refinishing furniture.  Jill loved trips with the family to the beach at Padre Island and cruises with Jim, and she enjoyed taking her kids and grandchildren on vacation.  She also still loved going to concerts all over Texas, with ACDC being her favorite band.  She enjoyed visiting with her close friends and she and Jim had dear next-door neighbors – her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Charles Lewis.

Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Dwain and Barbara Little and Jim’s parents, Bill and Mary Louise Basden, and an infant grandson, Leo James Basden, son of Noah and Taylor Basden and the twin of Victoria Basden.

She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Basden of Groesbeck; son and daughter-in-law, Elijah Kane Basden and Ariel Basden; son and daughter-in-law, Noah Wimbish Basden and Taylor Basden; grandson, Brantley Basden, granddaughter, Oakley Basden, and granddaughter, Victoria Basden.  She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Tina and Jimmy Harris of South Boston, Virginia and Judy and Charles Lewis of Groesbeck, and nieces and nephews.
