Esther Yvonne (Sanders) Page, of Groesbeck, passed away at Groesbeck LTC Nursing Home on Monday, December 4, 2023, at age 80.
Yvonne was born June 15, 1943, in Groesbeck. Dr. J.B. Riggs came to the house and his nurse, Mrs. Rice, helped him bring this bundle of joy to her parents, Calvin William Sanders and Eldred Francine (Sokol) Sanders.
She attended school in Groesbeck all 12 years and was a member of the Class of 1961. She was in the pep squad throughout high school, and her senior year, she was on the paper staff, annual staff, and in the King and Queen coronation.
Yvonne met the love of her life working at a service station in Mexia. She married Weldon Ray Page on August 24, 1965, in Fairfield. They had been married 49 years and were looking forward to their fiftieth anniversary when he passed away in 2014.
They lived in Groesbeck until 1973, where she had worked at J. B. White Co. and then at Vogel Sewing Co. Then the family moved to Kennedale where Weldon was employed. She worked at the Kennedale Nursing Home as a cook from 1974-1979. She then worked at Machine Parts Co. packing air conditioning parts for Ford, until she was laid off when Ford took over that work in their company. She went to work at Pastuska Machine Parts Co., making parts for Brinkman flashlights until they moved the jobs to Dallas. Then she worked at Tony Lama Leather, making western belts until that company moved to El Paso in the 1980s. She enjoyed each job as she learned new things from each one.
When Weldon retired in 2007, they moved back home to Groesbeck where they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. She loved to take walks, work in her flower beds and get her exercise by cutting the front yard with her push mower.
Yvonne spent many hours with Weldon while he was fishing. He asked her if she wanted to go fishing on their first date, and when she said yes, he had to get busy trying to find a boat in which to take her fishing. One story Yvonne had about their fishing trips was when she was tromping through mud carrying the fishing gear and became stuck in the mud. Weldon came back to rescue the fishing gear but got in no hurry to rescue her because “she wasn’t going anywhere till he could get back.”
Yvonne enjoyed family time and being with friends, and her fur-babies. She really enjoyed the cookouts they had as a family, when grandkids and friends would all be together. She really looked forward to meeting with some of her classmates to eat out one day each month.
Yvonne was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents; her husband, Weldon in 2014; her brother, Jerry Sanders; four stepsons, Stevie Page, Rodney Page, Kenneth Page, and Gary Page; step grandson, Robert Wilder, Jr.; and brothers-in-law, Billy Page and Jack Putz, Sr.
She is survived by a son, Calvin Ray Page and wife Charlotte of Mart; daughter, Nancy Page Strunk and husband Cliff of Groesbeck. Also, by three stepdaughters, Pam Page Guest, Lisa Page Smith and Ann Page Bratton; grandsons, Canyon Thomas, Carl Strunk and wife Kenzie, Kelly Strunk and wife Alyssa, and granddaughters, Jessie Elizabeth Page and Casey Strunk. The great grandchildren are: Ava Marie Hebbe, Penny Strunk, Mila Strunk, Journey Strunk, Payton Strunk, Jaden Strunk, and Faith Jones, Tanner and also 15 step grandchildren, 17 step great grandchildren and 5 step great-great grandchildren. She has two sisters-in-law, Betty Page Putz and Ruby Page Gund; several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends, and her fur-babies.
