Frances Carol Stimmel, of Kosse, passed away at Groesbeck LTC on Monday, June 22, 2026, at age 76.

Visitation will be held at the Common Ground Cowboy Church at Kosse on Sunday, June 28, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Following visitation, a Memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at the Common Ground Cowboy Church in Kosse with Pastor Lynn Kemp officiating.

Carol was born on September 5, 1949, in Marlin, TX, to Jesse Allison O’Neal and Frances Louise (Williams) O’Neal. She grew up In Kosse and attended school in Reagan and then in Marlin, where she graduated from Marlin High School.

Carol enjoyed riding horses while she was growing up and participating in the Play Days at McLanahan. After she graduated, she attended Cosmetology school in Waco and worked as a licensed beautician at beauty shops in Marlin and Lott.

Carol was united in marriage with James Richard Stimmel, Jr. on February 27, 1970, at the home of her parents, “Punk” and Louise O’Neal. They lived in Lott for a while, then moved to Kosse, and later moved to Mexia.

When Carol and Richard moved to Mexia, in addition to raising her own children, she began providing daycare for other children in her home, and this developed into opening a daycare center, Kiddieland Express, in Mexia. Carol helped raise many children through her loving care for over fifty years.

While Carol’s children were involved in baseball and softball, she liked going to all their games and supporting them in all their activities, including Kenny’s rodeos and Shelly’s band activities. She continued to never want to miss a game of her grandchildren, and later the great grandchildren. She never missed a party for the kids or any other family gathering, and loved going to the family reunions for the Williams, O’Neal and Stimmel families, and the Kosse Homecoming.

She was always a busy worker. Her biggest passion was sewing, but she also worked hard raising flowers and plants, especially the many rose bushes around her home. She also enjoyed tending to their cows with Richard.

After they retired, Carol and Richard moved to the O’Neal family land at Kosse. She and Richard were members of the Common Ground Cowboy Church at Kosse. She remained a busy lady and never slowed down. After entering the Groesbeck LTC Nursing Home in November, she never gave up her fighting spirit to the end.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Allison “Punk” O’Neal; her mother, Frances Louise Williams O’Neal; her sister, Joyce Scott; sister-in-law, Patsy Hogan; mother-in-law and father-in-law, James Stimmel Sr and Margaret Stimmel; her maternal grandparents, O.T. and “Lack” Williams, and paternal grandparents, Jess and Mae O’Neal.

She is survived by her husband, James Richard Stimmel, Jr. of Kosse; daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Cecil McElveen of Brazoria; and son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Jaime Stimmel of Kerens.

The grandchildren are Kayla and Kevin Zientek of Caldwell, Allison and John Gallardo of Angleton, Conley Nix of Jones Creek, Ryan Stimmel of Kerens, Rylie Stimmel of Magnolia, Alyssa and Justin Cook of Danbury, and Chelsey McElveen and Jason Palmer of Horseshoe Bend, AR.

The great grandchildren are Kayslee, Karlyn and Kayne of Caldwell, Easton of Angleton, Libby and Jake of Danbury, and Connor of Horseshoe Bend, AR.
