Howard Victor Baldwin, of Lake Limestone / Jewett, TX, passed away at home on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at age 78.

Howard’s final wishes were to be cremated and that his ashes be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as “Punchbowl Cemetery,” at Honolulu, Hawaii. The family will make this trip at a future time to fulfill his wishes.

Howard was born in Seattle, Washington, on October 17, 1947, and his parents were Howard and Evelyn (Herrold) Baldwin. He grew up in West Seattle and graduated from Chief Sealth High School.

Howard was drafted into the U. S. Army, joining the 101st. Airborne, where he served as a Sergeant. He earned the following medals: National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal, Vietnam Campaign medal, Air medal, Army Commendation medal, Bronze Star medal, and Parachute Badge.

After his honorable discharge, he studied metallurgy at the University of Utah and went to work for Leckenby Welding Services. He moved to Texas to work in the construction of power plants and remained in Texas the rest of his life.

Howard was united in marriage with Barbara Malmfeldt on November 18,1982, in Groesbeck. They had met in Washington State in the early 80’s when he was her welding instructor at Leckenby and she and her daughter, Lorraine moved to Texas to be with him.

They made their home at Lake Limestone near Jewett. After he retired from Leckenby, he worked for HL&P, Pyramid and Long Industries until he completely retired.

Along with his love for his family and friends, Howard loved taking care of animals. He enjoyed his many dogs and cats and feeding the deer and birds. He even raised several Water Buffalo and a Yak.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Baldwin; daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and David Hoedebeck of Groesbeck; granddaughter, Britney and husband Jake Willett; grandson, Scott Smith, Jr. and wife Laura; and great grandchildren, Haze Smith, Emerson Freeman, Dax Smith, Crew Smith, and Nash Willett. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Jessie Baldwin of Washington, nephew Mark and Karla Baldwin and great nephew Jacob, niece Kimberly and David Berryman and great niece Amanda.
