Iris Ann Steagall

June 23, 1941 — August 11, 2018

Mrs. Iris Ann Townley Steagall of Groesbeck went home to be with our Lord and Savior, on the morning of Saturday August 11, 2018. She will be buried in Houston next to her husband. Visitation will be held 6:00 pm-8:00 pm on Tuesday August 14, 2018 at Groesbeck Funeral Home. She was born on June 23, 1941 in Pensacola, Florida to her parents James and Clara Middleton Townley. She married John A. Steagall on November 19, 1955. They had four children, David who died when he was two months old, DeWayne, Mary Ann and Ronnie. Iris and her family moved from Florida in 1961 to Houston, Texas. There she was active in her church in the choir and taught Sunday school for years. She was employed by the Houston independent school district, a job she cherished because she loved children so much until she retired in 1988. Later, she moved to Groesbeck in 1992 following the death of her husband. She was a very loving and kind person who could light up a room with her smile. She greatly enjoyed her family and going to church as her health would allow. For the past several years, she has resided in the Windsor Nursing Facility when her health failed. She always has a good spirit about her no matter what situation she found herself in. She loved many of the staff like they were her family and the staff would often refer to her as Mama. She is preceded in death by her husband John Arthur, Sons, David Steagall, DeWayne Steagall, and Ronnie Steagall. Her parents both died in a car accident when she was very young. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Medlen and son in law Michael of Groesbeck, Daughter in law Susan Steagall of Austin, Texas. Four Grandchildren, LeAnn Beard and husband James of Groesbeck, Michaela Medlen of Groesbeck, Hannah Yarborough and husband Lyle of Austin, and Coleman Steagall of Austin.  As well as two Great Grandchildren Killian Beard of Groesbeck and Everly Yarborough of Austin. She is also survived by her brother Ronnie Townley of Florida. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Windsor Nursing Facility for the genuine care they gave to Iris.
