James Edward Freeman, of Thornton/Seale, passed away at home on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at age 75.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.
James was born May 1, 1951, to James Freeman and Oma McCaleb Freeman in Marlin. He grew up in Kosse and attended school in Groesbeck, graduating from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1971.
James worked at Dresser Minerals outside of Thornton for the next six or seven years, then worked in Waco, and later for Brown and Root as a bulldozer operator. He then worked for twenty years in the electrical trade for the Thermon company as an insulator. He travelled all over the United States in this job, sometimes being gone for weeks, or months, or even a year on the job. He always sent his mother pictures of where he was working and she would locate the places on her map. He really enjoyed the travel and time spent in other places.
However, Seale was where he came home to during the time he was not at work. He enjoyed hunting deer and hogs. He and brothers, Ricky and Arthur, loved to spend the whole weekend with him out hunting or even target shooting while he was at home. James retired from his work and travelling about ten years ago, coming back to Seale and more time for hunting.
James was a man who would help everybody who called him, or even if they didn’t call, he would be there to help if he thought help was needed. He was an unselfish giver of his work, time and money.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Martha McDaniels; brother-in-law, Jerry Vincent; and sisters-in-law, Joanie Welch and Deretha Welch.
He is survived by his brother, Arthur Welch of Groesbeck; sister, Debra Vincent of Wells, TX; brother, Richard Welch of Thornton; and brother, George Lynn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
