Janice Elaine Brooks

Janice Elaine Brooks, of Groesbeck, passed away at Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at age 83.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025.

Janice was born April 15, 1942, in Waco, to Bernice Dickerson and Hilda (Becker) Dickerson. She grew up in Waco and graduated from Waco High School.

Janice was united in marriage with Horace Brooks in 1960 right after high school.

Janice worked at Waco Cardiology Clinic, and in her spare time she was a Tupperware sales lady. She began work at the Cardiology Clinic when Providence first opened it and worked there until she retired around 2002. She was not just a secretary but was dedicated to serving the doctors, even to doing their personal shopping for gifts for their wives. She was good to the doctors, and they were good to her.

Shopping was something Janice loved, whether clothes and shoes or at the arts and crafts stores. Every Saturday, while her daughter Deborah was young, they went shopping around Waco and out to eat. She loved making many kinds of arts and crafts including flower arrangements, and going to art and craft shows.  She also enjoyed plants, both indoors and outdoors.

Janice was a beautiful lady who always took great effort in her hair, make-up and clothing (everything had to match), and therefore she received many well-deserved compliments. Additionally, she was a Diet Dr. Pepper fanatic.

Janice and Horace moved to Thelma about thirty years ago on the Brooks’ family land and made it a home for all the family to enjoy. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren – they were her world – and she loved having them at the farm. She also had great love for her cat. After Horace passed away a few years ago, her daughter moved from Waco to take care of her mother, and the family are taking care of the family home and their good memories of Janice.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul Dickerson and her husband, Horace Brooks.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Brooks and Vickie Hinds of Groesbeck; son, Ricky Brooks of Waco; grandchildren, Chad and Amber Brooks of Groesbeck, Aaron Brooks of China Spring, Ty Brooks and girlfriend Kailey of Salado, and Nick and Mandy Beveridge of Groesbeck; and great grandchildren, Keeley and Dooley Brooks of Groesbeck; Lily, Marilyn and Emmry Brooks of China Spring; Kruz, River and Oaklynn Brooks of Salado; and Aubree, Brynlee and Dakota Beveridge of Groesbeck.
