Jimmy was born on July 24, 1951, in Groesbeck, to Bruce and Lela Mae Vest. He graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1969 and lived in this area all his life. While a teenager, Jimmy met a Mexia girl, Rosemary Schuster, and they began a romance in spite of the old Groesbeck-Mexia rivalry.
Jimmy and Rosemary were united in marriage on April 17, 1971 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia, and they made their home in Groesbeck.
Jimmy worked on power plants all over the United States for many years, as well as at Big Brown in Fairfield for a period of time. He was a general foreman and then supervisor for the last 15 years before retiring to his home in the country, where he loved checking on his cows. Jimmy loved golf, both playing and always watching it on TV, as well as football and different sports.
Jimmy always wanted to come back to his home base at Groesbeck, but he and Rosemary loved traveling together. She often joined him where he was working on the job in other states during summers and spring breaks, and some of their favorite trips included Colorado, Nevada, Mt. Rushmore, and the East Coast. They especially loved trips in Texas to Fredericksburg. Rosemary collected magnets from each state which she kept on the fridge and the grandchildren delighted in pulling them off or moving them around.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith Vest and sister, Rita Vest Wiley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rosemary Vest; their daughter, Shawna Sunday of Mart; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffrey and Liz Vest of Mexia and Chuck and Barbara Vest of Anson. His grandchildren are: Spencer Vest and Rachelle Self, Stetson Vest and Nancy Morales, and Brandon and Kasey Smith - all of Groesbeck; Kori Vest of Breckenridge; Jackson and Kayley Gross of Round Rock; Logan and Paige Wehmeyer of Riesel; Kenzie Wehmeyer of Alma, Michigan; and Maverick Sunday of Mart; along with several great grandchildren, and also several nieces and nephews.
