KP was born August 26, 1932, to David Frank Garnett, Sr. and Lillian (Coombs) Garnett in Roaring Springs, TX. While he was growing up, the family lived on various ranches in New Mexico and Texas.

KP was united in marriage with Florence Ballew, his childhood sweetheart, on September 24, 1949. He worked in Albuquerque as an iron worker and then on the Carter Ranch in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. During this period, a friend had suggested he would make a good police officer, so he entered the police academy in Sante Fe with 44 other recruits. He was one of the nineteen to be commissioned as police officers and served as a New Mexico State Policeman for the next nineteen years.

KP was a lifelong cowboy. His love of horses translated into training racehorses for ten years. He was always involved in some way with horses and their training.

In 1999, KP and Florence moved to the Prairie Grove community to live near his daughter, Sandy, and help her with her horses.

KP was known for his honesty and integrity. His love for his family and his Lord were the most important things in his life. He was a member of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church.

KP was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillian Garnett; daughter, Verona Vaughn; all eleven of his siblings; and his wife, Florence Garnett (in 2023.)

He is survived by daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Garnett of Groesbeck; grandchildren, Tuck and Stephanie Traynor of Amarillo, Keith and Sarah Marie Retz of Groesbeck, and Russell Retz of Groesbeck; and great grandchildren, Lauriel Retz of Colorado and Samantha Traynor of Amarillo.
