Maxine was born May 17, 1946, to Mack Smith and Mable Smith in Houston. She grew up in Houston and attended Sam Houston High School.
Maxine was united in marriage with Mike Mikolajchak on October 12, 1985.
She was a stay-at-home Mom who supported her children Robbie and Ronda in their 4-H and FFA activities, which included showing Jersey cows at dairy-cow shows all over Texas, as well as pigs and lambs. She took them to 14 shows a year, and was the swine-leader in their 4-H club. Maxine later worked at Eckerd’s Distribution Center in the Woodlands.
Mike and Max loved going on trail rides like the Sam Houston Trail Ride, the Texas Cattlemen’s Ride, the April Trek ride, Fall round-up, and Moonlight Rides.
While living in Conroe, the couple bought “The Farm” near Groesbeck in 1986 to spend the weekends developing it for their future home. When Mike retired in 2011, “Busha and Jaja” moved to their new home and loved to have all the family at the farm. Maxine wanted their home to be everybody’s “Happy Place.” She took them to see the cows, fishing, shooting turtles, and very important to her was cooking and baking for them. Her chocolate pies were loved by everyone. Maxine was never more happy than when their grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephew were there.
After Mike’s passing in 2021, Ronda and Brian moved to the farm to help Maxine with the cows. During Maxine’s stay at the hospital, her nurse said she would always be remembered at “The Best Patient Ever.”
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert Wesley “Robbie” Garrison, Jr; her husband, Mike Mikolajchak in 2021; and her son-in-law, Brian Roberts in 2023.
She is survived by her daughter, Ronda Roberts; grandsons, Cody Skvara and his wife Kristen, Dusty Roberts and his wife, Jordyn, and Nolan Garrison; great grandchildren, Olivia, Owen and Henry Skyvara; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Butch Lampert, Betty Hampton, and Shirley and Roy Middleton; numerous nieces and nephews; and Mike’s family.
Also, Elaine Henry, was not only Maxine’s caregiver, but her friend and became part of the family. She always greeted Maxine with “Hello, Sunshine” when she saw her, and she is appreciated as a blessing to Maxine and all the family.
