Meredith June Shugart, known lovingly to family and friends as June, passed away on June 20, 2026, in Rockwall, Texas at the age of 95.

Funeral services are on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. (with Visitation beginning at 9:00 prior to the service) at the First Baptist Church, Rockwall, TX.

Interment will be at Groesbeck, TX., in Faulkenberry Cemetery, at 3:00 pm. on Monday. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family prior to the burial, from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. in the Frank Davis home on East Yeagua St., Groesbeck.

June was born on March 19, 1931, in Groesbeck, Texas, to a family that would shape the kind, steady, and devoted woman she became. She carried the values of faith, family, and hard work throughout her life, and those who knew her best remember her as loving, funny and friendly. Her presence brought warmth and laughter to every room, and her gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who were blessed to know her.

As a young girl, June moved to Dayton, Texas, where she attended school through her sophomore year. She was active and involved, participating in sports, drill team, and choir. Those early years reflected the energy and enthusiasm that would remain part of her character throughout her life. Later, she returned to Groesbeck, where she met Eugene Shugart, the love of her life. She graduated from Groesbeck High School and attended Westminster College in Tehuacana before marrying Eugene, beginning a partnership that would be built on devotion, mutual respect, and enduring love.

June supported her husband in his work and business in Pasadena, Texas for 47 years. She was always deeply involved in the busy lives of her children. She could be found at ball games, scouting events, school concerts, and countless other activities, always cheering, encouraging, and making sure her family knew they were loved. She also worked for many years in medical insurance for physicians, where her reliability and strong work ethic were greatly valued. In addition, she cared faithfully for her parents and her in-laws when they needed help, offering them the same steady love and attention that she gave so freely to everyone in her life.

June lived her Christian faith sincerely through the way she treated others. Her life was marked by service, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She and Eugene later made their home in Rockwall, where they enjoyed many happy years together. June loved to entertain, and their home became a gathering place filled with laughter, conversation, and friendly games of 42, often with more than one table going at the same time. Those Rockwall years were especially meaningful to her, as she enjoyed spending time with her children and watching her grandchildren grow. She enjoyed taking part in the many activities that filled their lives.

June was a fantastic cook, and everything she made was remembered as exceptional. Her potato salad was without equal, and her pies were widely considered the best ever. She took great joy in preparing meals for others, and her kitchen was a place where love was expressed through every dish she served. She also loved music and the arts and was an accomplished painter. Singing in the choir at First Baptist Church was one of her great joys, and she cherished the fellowship and friendship she found there. Her voice and spirit were both gifts to her church family.

June was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Shugart, her mother and father Frank and Novell Davis, her in-laws Arthur and Mary Shugart, her sister-in-law Rita Davis, her nephew Mike Davis, and her great grandson Ryder Joseph Warden.

She is survived by her daughter, Dixie Lynn Gordon, and husband Wayne Gordon; her son, Starley E. Shugart, and wife Barbara Shugart; and her brother, Leo Davis. She is also survived by her grandchildren Eliza Warden and husband Nathan, Nora Estes and husband Chad, Christopher Gordon and wife Ashley, Andrew Gordon and wife Lindsay, and Meredith Zuercher and husband Brandon. Her great grandchildren Maddox, Fiona, Allegra and Kingston Warden; Everly and Wyatt Estes; Liam and Lilly Gordon; and Liberty, Norah, and Wynn Zuercher, were among her greatest joys. She is also survived by her nephew, Rucker Davis, and wife Nikki and their children Noah and Celia; her niece, Julie Davis, and sons Luke and Chase; and her dear friends Jo David, Neva Howlett, Ann Chapman, Sheri Johnston, and Kathryn Haston.

The family would like to thank her many friends in The Friendship Sunday School Class, her caregivers at Highland Meadows, her private caregivers, and the medical staff at Texas Health Presbyterian Rockwall.

June's life was a beautiful example of devotion to family, faith, and the simple joys that make a life rich and meaningful. She will be remembered for her warmth, her humor, her hospitality, her talents, and the deep love she gave so freely. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the many lives she touched with her kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Rockwall Building Project.
