Nancy Louise Stockton

December 1, 1946 — March 3, 2024

Groesbeck

Nancy Louise Stockton, passed away at her home in Groesbeck, after a short illness, on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at age 77.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Groesbeck Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tracy Sims of the Central Baptist Church of Thornton officiating.   Burial will follow in Fort Parker Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Chester Aills, Michael Lewis, Chris Aills, David Lewis, Tyler Lewis and Roger Freeman.

Nancy was born December 1, 1946, to Miles Allen Stockton and Jessie Louis (Castleberry) Stockton and was their only child.   While her father was in the military, she lived in five different states while growing up, prior to the family moving to Groesbeck when he retired.  Nancy became a Groesbeck Goat for her last two years of high school, graduating from Groesbeck High in 1966.

Nancy had a scholarship to Temple Business College, where she completed the business course and began working.  She began working in the Limestone District Clerk’s office in 1969 and climbed those courthouse stairs many times until she retired in 2004.

Nancy was a big sports fan, and loved to go to the Groesbeck Goat football games with Mike and Kathy Lewis, in her “Goat” shirt, to watch her cousins Chris, Michael and David play.  She grew up watching sports on TV with her Dad, and remained a passionate supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Ranger and Mavericks, taking their games seriously.  But she also watched the whole sports package on TV, from ice hockey to ping pong, and loved movies too.

She and her mother, Jessie and aunts, Bobbie and Shirley made many trips together, to doctor appointments and shopping, walking many miles throughout Garden Ridge in San Antonio and may have found a few things to buy.  Together, they enjoyed making large yard-art decorations for a few years. Her companions always included a dog and cats, and for the last years, her special friend left behind is “Bear.”

Nancy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck and had worked in the Nursery and kept attendance records until a few years ago.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Allan, in 1976 and her mother, Jessie in 2018; cousins, Craig Lenamond and Peggy Castleberry; as well as other family members.

She is survived by her aunt and uncle, Shirley and Roger Freeman of Groesbeck and aunt, Bobbie Jean Lenamond of Groesbeck; cousin, Jeannett Riajos of San Antonio; and many more cousins and other extended family.
